PS5 Game Gifts for PlayStation Players
A new game for PlayStation players
The best clue for a PS5 present is usually what they are already playing. A fast platform adventure, a patient driving game and a demanding boss battle make very different evenings; match their taste, then check the exact edition and whether their console can read a disc.

Why people love it
Why it makes such a good gift
A well-chosen game says you have noticed what they enjoy, whether that is revisiting a favourite character or spending an evening trying to shave a second off a lap. Knowing their console is a start; knowing their favourite kind of play is the part that makes it feel personal.
Pick the evening they would actually enjoy
Sonic x Shadow Generations, our starting pick, combines Sonic platforming with a separate Shadow adventure. It is PEGI 7 and suits someone who enjoys quick movement, colourful stages and replaying a run to get it right. Astro Bot, also PEGI 7, offers a playful single-player platform adventure with plenty to explore; it is a useful alternative when you are choosing around discovery rather than a particular Sonic fan.
Gran Turismo 7 is the driving route, rated PEGI 3. It rewards an interest in cars and improving a lap, but it needs an internet connection for most functionality. PlayStation Plus is required for online multiplayer, so a boxed disc does not remove every ongoing requirement.
For players aged 16 and over, Black Myth: Wukong offers demanding single-player combat inspired by Chinese mythology. Its PEGI 16 rating and challenging battles make it a particular taste, rather than a general present for every teenager. EA SPORTS FC 27 is the football choice here and is also PEGI 16. Check the specific year’s rating: it is not safe to carry over the younger age rating from an older football game.
Before you wrap the box
- Disc drive: these are physical PS5 editions. They need a PS5 with a compatible disc drive. A separate drive fits only Sony’s supported newer Digital Edition and PS5 Pro models, so check the exact console rather than assuming any Digital Edition can be upgraded.
- Already owned: check their library, subscriptions and the exact edition. A familiar cover is a surprisingly easy present to buy twice.
- Setup and extras: allow for installation, storage and updates. Online multiplayer may need PlayStation Plus; games can also offer optional paid content or in-game purchases. Set family controls to suit the player rather than relying on the box alone.
- Football year: FC 27 is the 2026 release. Older FC editions may still be a good wanted gift, but teams, features and online activity can differ; ask which one they actually want.
PEGI ratings describe age suitability, not how easy a game will feel. A younger-content racing game can still require patience, and a bright platform adventure can still have tricky moments. If you are choosing for a younger player, our teenager gift guide offers other ways to play without guessing at a mature game.
