Give a story, or find your next listen
Audible gifts and membership: what to choose
An audiobook gift can give someone a story to enjoy on a walk, while travelling or during a quiet evening. The main choice is whether you want to give a membership to another person or start a subscription for yourself — they are different purchases.

Amazon plans are for your own subscription and renew unless cancelled. To buy for someone else, choose the Audible gift centre.

Buying a gift
Use the Audible gift centre and check delivery and redemption details for the recipient.
Trying it yourself
Compare the personal plans on Amazon. Your own trial is not a transferable gift.
Already an Audible member?
A redeemed gift supplies its credits together; their existing membership continues.
Buying for someone else? Choose the gift route
Audible UK offers gift memberships for 1, 3, 6 or 12 months. Choose a length that fits how often they listen, rather than assuming a longer gift is always better. A short membership is a thoughtful introduction for a curious listener; a longer one may suit someone who already makes audiobooks part of their week.
Use the gift centre to check the exact package, delivery choices and redemption instructions. Make sure you have the right recipient details, and read when the gift will be sent before paying. A trial started in your own account is not a membership you can transfer to them.

What if they already have Audible?
An existing member can redeem a gift membership. Audible says they receive its credits together, while their existing membership continues rather than being extended or interrupted. That can be useful for a keen listener with books on their wish list, but it is worth understanding before buying it as a way to cover their monthly bill.
If you are unsure what they already use, ask whether they listen through Audible, a library app or another subscription. An audiobook gift is more thoughtful when it fits their listening habits. For someone who prefers paper or an ebook, browse our book lover gift ideas instead.
Trying Audible yourself: Standard or Premium Plus?
Amazon’s UK signup page currently shows two plans. The difference is what happens to the books you choose when you stop subscribing, as well as how much listening is included.
Standard
choose one audiobook each month and listen to your selections while your membership remains active. Unused monthly selections do not roll over. This is subscription access, not a book to keep after cancellation.
Premium Plus
receive one credit each month to buy a book you keep after cancellation. The included Plus Catalogue gives additional listening while subscribed; those included titles are different from books bought with credits.
As of 30 September 2026, the UK landing page shows eligible 30-day trials followed by £5.99/month for Standard or £8.99/month for Premium Plus. The offer displayed to you may differ. Check the plan name, what is included, any introductory period and the ongoing charge before joining.
Which is the more useful choice?
Standard may appeal if you mainly want a monthly listen and do not mind losing access when you stop paying. Premium Plus is the clearer option if keeping your credit-purchased books matters, or if you would use its additional included catalogue. Do not assume every audiobook is included in either plan without checking the title.
If you tend to reread favourites, listen slowly or want a particular title, compare a separate audiobook purchase too. A monthly subscription is not automatically better value for an occasional listener. Check whether you already have listening through another service before adding a second one.
Before joining or giving a membership
- For a gift, check the recipient details, delivery timing and redemption terms. For a personal membership, use your own account.
- Read which books are bought to keep and which are available only while subscribed.
- Note the trial or promotional end date and the price after it. A personal trial renews unless cancelled.
- Check cancellation and any credit expiry or use rules in the chosen plan before relying on a future listening schedule.
This is a personal membership signup, not a gift. Offers depend on eligibility; a trial renews at the plan’s stated price unless cancelled.
If you are comparing other subscriptions, our Prime guide explains its included reading, music and video benefits. Prime Reading, Kindle Unlimited and Audible are different services; joining one should not be taken to mean you have the others.
